Oh, Evolve, we're just not sure about you. First of all, props to Turtle Rock Studios for all their hours of development and design - a valiant attempt to break the mold of modern first-person shooters. Received well by game review sites like IGN and Gamespot, Evolve's feedback from fans has been very mixed. Game Prophet evaluated IGN's Review of Evolve, which is full of praise, then read the user comments section.... Yikes! We played the Beta and final build of the game and it seems to come down to a "love it or hate it" scenario. Here's our thoughts compared to IGN's raving review.

The premise of Evolve is rather innovative in a world where player versus player FPS's always placed even teams against eachtoher. Four human-controlled players versus one player-controlled monster is something that certainly drew the attention of gamers everywhere pre-release. To be honest, the balance system in Evolve is rather good but getting into games can be a major hassle. There has been a patch that attempted to address this already, but the system could still use some work.

Prolonged Progression

According the IGN's review, their only negative comment reflects the length of time it takes to

level up your characters. The game feels light until you put in the time to unlock all of the abilities. Once all of the content is available which could take a few days to weeks depending on your skill level, IGN says the game feels better. Game Prophet agrees that it feels more complete, but still can't get over the repetitive game modes. The similarity of each round made progressing my characters more of a grind than I would have liked. We don't think this system really adds anything to the gameplay.

Who's Rating this Again?

Whether Evolve is a game for you or not, it seems to be favored by IGN. Why a site like this would post such a raving review, Game Prophet is not sure. Maybe there was some kind of external influence on the scoring, we don't know. Evolve is a good game if you're into the 4 v 1 dynamic or really just want to be a monster, but its not for everyone. Let me know how you feel about the game below:
