Recently, gaming site IGN.com commented on developer Ubisoft's plans for the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise. After a live stream featuring writers from the series, speculations began to arise about the direction in which the story is headed. Apparently, Ubisoft's writers have outlined nearly 700 years worth of events to take place within future titles. Many of these events that drive the storyline are influenced by real historic figures, conflicts and locations. Game Prophet wants to know the direction this yearly series is going, and add some suggestions of our own.

Unity's Place in the World
The most recent title, Assassin's Creed: Unity, takes place during the French revolution from 1787-1799 and is a massive game. So massive is the depiction of Paris that Ubisoft did not get to develop as much of the modern day storyline featuring Desmond as it would have liked to. These parallel story lines have always been a part of Assassin's Creed, bouncing players between the present and the past to reveal more about Desmond, the Abstergo corporation, and the Templars. The light implementation of these "flash-forwards" in Unity creates more questions than it answers, and Ubisoft has said it wishes to have more in next year's title.
Overlapping Stories & Leaks
As noted by IGN, there was a leak last year about the setting of the next installment in the Creed franchise: Victorian London. Ubisoft has yet to confirm this or officially announce the game, but it is supposed to be more directly tied with the plot of Unity. This is a similar approach to how Assassin's Creed I & II were related, and we agree it works. This overlapping of time periods and events is also prevalent in Assassin's Creed III and IV so we assume this strategy will be repeated with events taking place in 18-19th century Europe. This model seems to be successful and gives fans a greater sense of lore and how characters relate. Having played every installment to date, Game Prophet appreciates Ubisoft's attempts to tie everything together while still exploring new time periods.
Looking to the Future
Game Prophet is no doubt a huge fan of Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. Having said this we do have some suggestions for gameplay, to keep it from getting stale:
Add more Mission Variety - Not just Killing, Following & Climbing
Have Characters from Unity appear in the new game
Allow even more acquisition of businesses and upgrading of your residence
Additional RPG elements like skill trees, choices that drive the story, & multiple playable characters
Allow friends online to help you with co-op story missions
These are just a number of suggestions, but after playing the franchise for so long, we could use some variation. Bottom line- Ubisoft, keep up the great work. We look forward to the announcement of the next title! Check out IGN's article here for more information on the plan for the future of the Creed!
